The Fire

“I think I am dying.”  Salisha said these words sitting in front of the dying fire, clutching the blue shawl her favourite aunt had given her as a departing gift. Her brother sat right in front of her, looking at her as if she grew a third eye. But with the statement she had just made, that was kind of valid.   Still in shock, her brother stuttered out, “W-what do you m-mean? You look f-fine-"  “Not literally dying, big bro, it’s just that I feel dead inside, you know. As if there is nothing left to enjoy anymore.”   It was all true, she felt. Hours ago, the fire had been bigger, with the embers dancing and the fire casting an incandescent glow on all her relatives who had been here for a family reunion. The orange flames had eaten through most of the wood, and the warmth of it had seeped right into her bones and warmed her up. Now, however, looking at the dwindling fire only managed to make her feel dread, the embers no longer sparking as much as ear...

The Thief

I jumped out of bed, sweat covering me in a layer of sheen. Unable to sleep, I had been  and  turning  in my bed for two hours. Thinking that a little water and air would do me some good,  I got out of bed and went down the stairs. To my surprise, all the lights were switched off. Usually, my parents would leave the lamp under the stairs switched on,  as I was a little scared  o f the dark.    Now with no light of the little light cast by the crescent moon up in the sky or the streetlight farther down the  lane, I  tiptoed to the lamp and I  switched  it on.  The flicker of light surprised me ,  as it wa s a little sudden.  Walking slowly to the kitchen with my hands clasped behind my back, I was again left astonished  when I saw the  ba ckdoor  open , though just a little. A gentle breeze blew and the leaves rustled as if swaying to the rhythm.  Closing the door, I was left perple...

A Curious Murder

It was all fine until Jayde Fallon was found dead at her residence. With the window broken to the outside and the victim’s hands bleeding, but no trace of blood was to be found on the glass shards. Jayde had a kitchen knife sticking out from the chest. Her emerald green orbs were staring blankly into space. Her raven black hair was matted with blood due to the fact her forehead had a huge gash which was sticky with blood. The room was scattered with books and other such things. All the drawers were flung open which suggested robbery. The cop who was assigned the case was named Darrius Thorne and he got to know from the neighbours that Jayde had been a simple young woman with simple needs. She had a few friends but lived alone. Her parents had died in a car crash seven years prior, when she just turned 22. Her parents hadn’t had any siblings so she was left alone with no family. She used to work in a reputed company and despite being in a junior position, she received decent pay wh...

The wind

The wind blew and the storm poofed, Sent a wave of dried leaves hurtling down the lane, The clouds were forced to shift, By the force of the mighty wind. The wind howled like a dragon, When it was angered by the living, Left the world in a state of devastation, Causing irreparable damage. It blew with the force of a million elephants, Tarnishing houses and blowing away roofs from above the head, Left stomachs empty with people looking for shelter, But what was done is done.

Nectar and poison

Your words, they stung, You left her broken into a thousand fragments, Her self confidence took a dive, Into an ocean of despair and regret. When her hard work was burnt by your talks, Of her being nothing more than a dummy, It hurt more than jagged rocks. And then, you term her as grumpy. When her value is not recognised, And she is pushed to fall down, You have hurt her more than thrice. Sometimes the pressure leaves her feeling ready to drown. This is all just poison. But if you talked to her politely, With a benign composure and good intentions at heart, With respect for her and her work, That wouldn't pierce like a dart. When her value is known, Her sacrifice appreciated, Her real potential is shown, And a new she created. When she is given a chance, A chance to rise to the occasion, Her happiness can be seen at a glance. Now,her life has become fun. This is what is life's nectar.

The Christmas Lights

It was a cold night yet was filled with the laughter of people.Street lights were not the only bright thing on the road.In fact, the whole town of Pillsbury was decked with fairy lights, wreaths,Christmas trees and ribbons.People went around buying cakes or doing the last minute shopping of gifts.During this hustle-bustle,nobody noticed a young girl of about twelve walking all alone on the road. She was not lost, neither did anybody care. She was dressed in dirty rags and her face was covered with soot. Her hair were all tangled up and wore no shoes.Even in the bitter, biting cold, she bore only a thin jacket and a single glove on her right hand. Her other hand was bare while her tattered jeans possessed a large hole on her right knee.Somebody had stolen her only pair of shoes leaving her to mourn over that alone. Now,seeing the happy, cheerful faces in the crowd made her even sadder.Oh!Why didn't she have no family? Why did she have to spend every Christmas with the stars and moon for comp...

My French Guest

Friendship is an eternal bond between two friends which can never be broken. William Penn once said and I quote,"Death is but crossing the world,as friends do the seas;they live in one another still. For they must needs be present, that love and live in that which is omnipresent. In this divine glass they see face to face, and their converse is free as well as pure. This is the comfort of friends, that though they may be said to die,yet their friendship and society are in the best sense ever present, because immortal." unquote. Friends are said to have true magic within themselves. They can enlighten the life of a poor pauper, a boring businessman and even touch the souls of people who have forever lost hope. Or one might have a normal friend, one with whom they can loaf around with, joke and prank others. Two months ago, a group of fifteen delegates from Paris,France visited my school. Two teachers accompanied them. I hosted one of the students who visited my school. He...

The Heroic Deed

“Granny, when will Maya and David come here ?” questioned Ajax. “Oh yes granny, I can’t wait. “ replied Ajax’s twin sister Samantha. “ They will come tomorrow. Be patient. “ replied their granny. During the summer vacations, Maya, David, Ajax and Samantha would visit their Granny every year. They were cousins. While Maya and Samantha were logical and intelligent, Ajax and David were clumsy and drove their mothers crazy. The next day, when Maya & David arrived, Ajax & Samantha rushed to greet their cousins. They all would spend hours together everyday and go for cycling adventures. On one such day, the four cousins took their bicycles and sped off to an old fort nearby. It was believed to be haunted as people said that they would hear strange noises coming from the fort late at night. Rushing off at maximum speed, the four cousins reached the fort quickly. Ajax got off and went towards the door of the fort. The fort was huge and had many windows. Moss covered the ...

Hence, he had met many types of people and also knew many languages. He was a loyal man but doubted everything he saw. During the journey, a young but handicapped man came to him with a box of shoe polish. “Do you want me to polish your shoes sir?” asked the boy. Getting suspicious of the boy, Mr. Dubblin shook his head. One of the passengers sitting next to Mr. Dubblin took pity and offered the boy five rupees. Offended, the boy shouted, “ I’m no beggar !”.One passenger called the boy over and asked him to polish his shoes. Mahatma Gandhi

The father of our nation and a leader. A source of guidance and a famed lawyer of his time. Also known as Mahtma, he has not failed to inspire millions of people, maybe even billion. Yes, we are talking about Mahtma Gandhi.   After he returned from South Africa in 1915, he joined the congress and started fighting for India’s independence. He, did not use guns or sword. He used non-violence and satyagarh. This was a tool British did not have. He believed that only way to defeat wrong doers was to make them feel ashamed. He played a vital role in freedom struggle. Mahatama Gandhi was an honest, patriotic, sensitive and kind soul. He made sure that everybody remained honest. He was a true patriotic. His love and dedication to the country was incredible. He was sensitive towards nature and remained kind throughout his life. He is an inspiration for me as he is a perfect role model. A peace loving person, Mahatma Gandhi detested wars. He was not scared of going to jail. Even thou...

Feeling gratitude

A few days ago, one of my ex-teacher Ma'am Tarana  asked me for my blog's name and link. A little surprised, I must have shown that on my face to my teacher, that prompted her to give me the reason for asking the same. As soon as I heard what my teacher had to say, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. She was going to share my blog link and name on her for other students to be inspired to take up writing. Ma'am Tarana has a blog named Untangling Life's Web. She posts new words and their meanings and she also shares short poems and stories along with grammar concepts and personal experiences. I frequently read and comment on her blog and have learnt many new words. As soon as I reached home, I told my mother about  the news. My mother was super-excited and proud of me. The next day, ma'am posted a blog with my blog details. It also contained a nine year-old Indo-American girl's blog description. The girl's name is Nitara and she has a blog named Tender quill. ...

Father's Day

I am the Elder child and the only daughter of my parents. Everyone tells me that I am my dad's princess. I think that is true. I believe that mom is a pillar of family and dad is a backbone of family. I have seen my dad working very hard for us. We never appreciate our dad's hardwork and take him for granted. I am sure therefore this day is dedicated to all the fathers when we can thank them for all the wonderful moments they provide to their family selflessly. Few lines dedicated to Father's day A day for yourself to relax A day to have fun, to sit in the sun. The third Sunday of June, for all fathers is a great boon. A father works day and night, and makes sacrifices contentedly, To ensure that their family is happy and have  everything they need. All fathers should take rest as Father's day is a well earned break, As they sweat and work for our sake. So to all the Fathers of the world, I say Happy Father's Day!!

My visit to Germany (Munich)- School Exchange Program

My visit to Sabel school Munich, Germany is unforgettable and unique .The moment we the group of nine students accompanied by a young and enthusiastic teacher landed in the country of architecture and motor, we knew that many surprises awaited us. We were welcomed by our hosts on the airport which was an unexpected but a warm gesture for me atleast. After a quick breakfast we went to Sabel School. It was a well-designed structure, the first imprint in my mind. The interactions with the teachers and children made me feel comfortable and like family. The best part of the first day was the group photograph. During the stay, the days were well planned and were executed gainfully for us. We worked on a project on architecture and visited various historical and renowned monuments. Marienplatz, also known as the town’s square, was one of the places we visited. The English Garden is a huge park with a canal for surfing. We also visited the Nymphenburg castle which was made in the 17 th ...

My feelings when I was told that I was going to Germany

The thought of travelling to new places leaves us enthralled and full of excitement.I was too when my mother told me that she was going to send me to Germany for a school exchange programme .I was speechless.I was on cloud nine!My ears rang with those words the entire day.Germany is a beautiful place. The architecture is intricate and there are many places to visit as well. That very day I started researching about Germany. My brothers told me not to count my chickens before they hatched. Why would they say so?That was because we had to submit a form(which I of course did not have)and give it to the teacher. And the bad news? The last date had already gone.I had not taken this problem into consideration.I began to fret and panic.I instructed myself to stay calm.I resolved that I would get the form first thing tomorrow, get it filled, take the money on the next working day that was Monday and voila!I would be going to Germany. The next day,I went to get the form with one of my friends I cross...

A Birthday Party

Last week, on Friday I went to my best friend's birthday party in Noida. When I came out of my house, the gentle breeze ruffled my hair and the leaves of the trees rustled lightly, making a pleasant sound much like the waves of the sea lashing on the side of a cliff. I wished that the party was out in the open. But no such luck. It was inside the society club. The car ride was exhausting. But we finally reached the party after an hour or so. We walked inside the club. It was full of pink and white balloons, my friend's favorite colors. Streamers lined the ceiling. The club was huge. Everyone ran and rushed inside the club. I spotted my best friend clothed in a spotless gleaming blue gown. Her hair were adorned in a silver crown made of white beads and sequins. She looked glamorous, like a supermodel. I ran upto her and hugged her tightly. We had not met in a long time. Later, we started playing several games. Some of which I won and some I lost. After the games, we w...

Endangered Animals

Once the animal kingdom had animals a plenty, With plant life nimble and dainty. But that was decades ago, There are not enough animals left in this century though. There numbers are declining , That's because of deforestation, development and mining . Many have become extinct , And there is no sign of their instinct . Animals are wonderful creatures, But they are getting killed by poachers. They need to be saved, Otherwise their presence will be much craved.

Mr Invention's Confession

Mr Invention, Will reveal a confession. Now let us see what he has to say , Will his confession destroy his day? He looks disturbed , For the first time he looks absurd. People got angry , They thought it would be something more juicy. They shouted and screamed , Mr Invention thought it was a bad dream. This is the end of his story , And also of his inventions and glory.

Independence

Independence is like soaring in the sky with our own wings, It was something which freedom fighters craved most  of all things. Now let me tell you a story, India was called the golden bird and went down in history, For it's flora and glory. Now the British did something which was very wrong indeed. And you can say that they planted a war seed. It got water and air and became a huge tree. It caused many wars and fights, Every Indian fought for their human rights. But some years later India was blessed, When Mahatma Gandhi grew he cared for each and every Indian. He stopped all the wars by using non-violence, We should all remember the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters, And indeed it was 15 August 1947. We should all pay tribute and pray, For that India which has made us happy and gay.

Conserving Earth

Conserving planet earth is the need of the hour, We are destroying our planet by driving so many cars. There is a lot of pollution and smoke, We breath the filthy air and get choked. The way  we are cutting trees continuously, One day not even one tree would be alive. The ozone layer has gone black from air pollution, Air pollution is in each corner of all nations. The noise pollution has gone too high, We humans are making it much worse,I don't deny. The garbage in the landfill site is rotting, It affects the already bad condition of the soil, Soil pollution is arising because we are throwing aluminum foil. The dirty water is sign of water pollution, It breads mosquitos which cause  many diseases. Have you ever wondered why it is so hot, It's all because of global warming it makes the day very hot. Let us lend our helping hand to save our Earth, So, everything can be fine and just like before.
